Tortola Pier Park Security Audit Underway
The security audit of the Cyril B Romney Tortola Pier Park is well underway with former Police Commissioner Michael Matthews, British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) Security Manager Dave Smith, and Tortola Pier Park Operations Manager Floyd Campbell today identifying security vulnerabilities for the final report to be submitted to Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer.
The audit was comissioned on July 2, a day after the daring daylight armed robbery at House of Luxury, to focus on robust strategies to enhance security measures at the park.
At around 2 p.m. on July 1, two persons dressed in all white robbed the House of Luxury jewellery store of an undisclosed some of valuables, firing gunshots in the air as they fled the Cyril B Romney Tortola Pier Park.
No one was injured during the daring crime which was witnessed by several persons in and around the Pier Park in Road Town.
The audit team will identify security gaps to strengthen the facility’s security management.
The audit will result in a number of recommendations to strengthen security and ensure public safety for all.
The final report will be submitted on July 10.
