Passports Still Being Processed Despite Delays Caused By UK Industrial Strike

British Virgin Islands Registrar General Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro has confirmed that British Overseas Territories Citizens and British passports are still being processed despite some delays due to the industrial strike in the United Kingdom from April 3 to May 5.

A June 6 Office of the Deputy Governor statement said passports are being issued within ten weeks.

More than 1,000 Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) staff were part of the Public and Commercial Services Union one month industrial strike across England, Scotland and Wales.

O’Flaherty-Maduro said citizens could renew their BOTC and/or British passport within nine (9) months of expiration and reminded residents to check their travel documents’ validity.

“As we are in the summer holidays, and hurricane season, the Civil Registry and Passport Office (CRPO) would like to stress the importance, more so than ever, to ensure that your travel documents remain valid,” the Registrar General said.
