High School Student Charged With Gun Possession

Officers attached to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Armed Response Team have charged 18-year-old high school student Brandon Benjamin with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Belle Vue, Tortola resident was apprehended by police while attempting to flee on a motor scooter in the Fort Hill area on Wednesday, May 10.

He will appear in the Magistrate’s Court at the next available sitting.

Benjamin was arrested during increased patrols by the Armed Response Team to reduce crime opportunities, and enhance police visibility and safety within the communities.

Additionally, Police were alerted this week about gun shota in the Spooner’s Estate, Gene Hill and in the Mount Healthy area.

A number of spent shells were also recovered from the locations.

Police are appealing to the general public for information about any persons known to be carrying, or in possession of a firearm.
