Six Hurricanes Predicted For 2023 Season
A total of thirteen named storms, with six becoming hurricanes and two reaching major hurricane strength, are predicted to hit the Caribbean, according to researchers at Colorado State University (CSU).
The recently released report stated that the Atlantic hurricane season – from August to October – will be
slightly below average due to the likely development of El Niño.
Two storms to watch are
Saffir and Simpson category (3-4-5) with sustained winds of 111 mph or more.
Researchers predict that 2023 hurricane activity will be about 80% of the average season from 1991–2020. In contrast, 2022’s hurricane activity was about 75% of the average season, with two major hurricanes, Fiona and Ian, causing significant damage and fatalities.
Atlantic hurricane season is from mid-August to late October, with September 10 marking the official peak date of the season.
