Jamaica’s U17 4x100m boys and girls relay teams were disqualified yesterday at the 50th Carifta Games in Nassau, Bahamas.

The boys won the silver medal in the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium, but after a review of the race, it was deemed that the team passed outside the change-over zone on the second handover.

Bahamas won the race with 41.46 seconds.

Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago moved up to second and third places, respectively.

The British Virgin Islands finished fifth with a new national record of 42.59 seconds. They are now fourth on the table as a result of Jamaica’s disqualification.

Another blow to team Jamaica was the official disqualification of the gold-medal winning U17 girls’ team.

Third leg runner Natrece East was deemed to have stepped on the inside line of her lane.

The gold was awarded to Trinidad and Tobago, silver to Bahamas and bronze to Bermuda.

Carifta concludes today.
