Elections 2023
Stop Fake Candidate Promotion urges Office of the Supervisor of Elections
With one month of campaigning remaining, the British Virgin Islands Office of the Supervisor of Elections has advised persons to desist from creating and sharing fake promotional material.
Recently a phoney election poster was shared in groups and on social media platforms urging residents to vote for Dashan Mouse Hodge in District 1 and to visit a bar for more information.
In a statement, the Election Commission stressed that fake profiles will confuse voters and may negatively impact the electoral process.
“Persons who do not intend to contest the 2023 General Elections as official candidates are strongly discouraged from creating imagery and other messaging suggesting otherwise, as this may negatively affect the electoral process by creating confusion among voters,” the statement stressed.
April 24 is election day.
Politicians from the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), National Democratic Party (NDP), Progressive Virgin Islands Party (PVIM), Progressive United Party (PUP), Patriotic Citizens’ Movement (PCM) and independent candidates have spent the last two weeks unveiling their developmental plans for the territory at rallies across the territory’s nine districts.
