(JTV News) — Another sportswoman — from the football arena — has received recognition.

Latoya Sue was recognised by Deputy Governor David Archer recently for “being the only female to presently coach a senior all men’s football team”.

Every Thursday, the Deputy Governor’s Office recognises and commends persons in the community to express gratitude for their significant contributions to the Territory of the Virgin Islands, according to a Facebook post on the Office’s Facebook page.

A week ago, it was Sue’s turn.

“Ms. Sue holds the unique distinction of being the only female to presently coach a senior all-men’s football team, which is noteworthy and exciting for the advancement of the sport,” the statement, quoting the deputy governor, reads. “Furthermore, she volunteers her time organising football with children to build their physical, technical, mental, emotional, and psychological development during their formative years. Join me in applauding Ms. Sue for her coaching and leadership services to our community. Her efforts contribute value towards the present and next generation of our entire BVI Territory.

Most recently, the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) recognised Cassandra “Coach Cass” Gregg in honour of her 30 years of dedication to football in the British Virgin Islands.

A billboard in Road Town honouring Gregg was also erected. This idea was conceived by the BVIFA’s Women’s Committee chaired by Lil Makeda Fahie, according to the Association in a news release.
