Teachers demand payment for three years of increments… or else
By CATHY RICHARDS AND MERRICK ANDREWS
Education Minister Sharie de Castro has reportedly promised to review a request from teachers who are demanding the payment of at least three years of salary increments due to them — or they will protest.
This development occurred during a meeting with the island’s educators and the minister on Thursday, Feb. 9., according to sources.
Reports reaching JTV News are that the teachers have not accepted the minister’s announcement that the government is finalising one year of the over five years of increments owed to public servants, including teachers.
“We are going to protest if she (Minister de Castro) can’t do what she must to meet our demands,” said one teacher who was present at the meeting. “We not settling for no elections gimmick. This is going on for too long. Three years we need ….”
