A fire engulfed and destroyed the Jerk Pit restaurant late Friday night, January 17, marking the second reported property fire in the British Virgin Islands this month. The restaurant, a popular dining spot located just a stone’s throw away from the Delta Petroleum Gas Station, was reduced to rubble by the flames.

Firefighters stationed on Virgin Gorda responded to the scene after a blaze was reported shortly after 11 p.m. They managed to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to two adjacent businesses. Fortunately, the restaurant was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported. However, the structure was deemed unsalvageable.

Fire officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze, which remains undetermined.
