The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) is set to launch a new Concrete Construction Training Programme, aimed at equipping individuals with essential skills and internationally recognized certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). This pilot program is scheduled to begin on November 4, and applications are currently open.

Designed to prepare participants for entry-level roles in the construction sector, the 24-week course will provide a blend of theory and hands-on experience. Classes will be held at HLSCC’s Centre for Applied Marine Studies from Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The program covers critical aspects of concrete construction, including best practices, safety protocols, and proper techniques. Students are required to maintain a 95% attendance rate and demonstrate punctuality, collaboration, and a commitment to learning.

Ms. Cecelia Rowe, Head of Technical Studies at HLSCC, emphasised the program’s role in enhancing the local workforce. “This initiative marks a crucial step toward strengthening the skillset of our community. We’re committed to preparing our students for success in the construction industry,” Rowe said.

Upon completion, participants will earn NCCER certification, 8 college credits, and an HLSCC Certificate of Completion. The course is open to both men and women aged 18 and older, with partial scholarships available for BVIslanders and Belongers. The certification offers a stepping stone for those looking to establish a career in construction, and participants will be evaluated through both computer-based exams and hands-on performance assessments throughout the course.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early, as spots are limited. For more details, contact Ms. Cecelia Rowe at (284) 852-7182 or crowe@hlscc.edu.vg, or reach out to Jaheim Maduro at (284) 852-7176 or jmaduro@hlscc.edu.vg.

This program provides a significant opportunity for those entering the construction industry to gain valuable credentials and training, fostering the next generation of professionals in the Virgin Islands.
