Grenlec Appoints Leroy Abraham as New CEO

Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (Grenlec) has named Leroy A.E. Abraham as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective October 1, 2024, marking a new chapter in leadership for the utility company.

Abraham, a seasoned veteran of the energy sector, retired from his post as General Manager of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) on December 31, 2022, following a 35-year tenure with the organization, 22 of those years spent in its top leadership role.

A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Abraham holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. His distinguished career at BVIEC saw him rise through the ranks, holding key positions, including Operations Engineer from 1993 to 1996, Distribution Engineer from 1996 to 2000, and CEO from 2000 to 2023. During his time as CEO, Abraham was instrumental in crafting the corporation’s strategic vision and spearheading network expansion plans to meet the British Virgin Islands’ growing energy demands.

In addition to his leadership at BVIEC, Abraham also served as the chief advisor to the Government of the Virgin Islands on all electricity-related matters. He played a pivotal role in the Territory’s shift toward renewable energy, overseeing the implementation of a hybrid renewable system on Anegada, an initiative praised for its forward-thinking approach to sustainability.

Abraham’s impressive credentials also include status as a Chartered Engineer and membership in the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is a Chartered Director and a former Chairman of the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC), further solidifying his expertise in the regional energy sector.
