18-year-old sprinter Adaejah Hodge became the first athlete from the British Virgin Islands to win gold at a World Championships event, clocking 22.74 seconds (0.0 wind) in the 200m dash tonight in Lima, Peru. This victory earned her the title of double World Championships medalist—another first for the BVI at any level.

This achievement follows her silver medal performance in the 100m, marking it the third individual medal for the BVI in World U20 history.

Previously, Kyron McMaster was the only BVI athlete to reach the podium, with a bronze in the 400m hurdles in 2016. Hodge’s groundbreaking victories signal a new era for the BVI in international athletics.
