The Department of Culture conducted the “Virgin Islands Built Heritage and the Art of Archaeological Reconstruction” workshop on May 29, catering to senior secondary school students specialising in Technical Drawing.

Students from Bregado Flax Educational Centre, Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies and Elmore Stoutt High School attended the event, which took place at Cedar International School and the St. Philip’s Anglican Church Ruins and Heritage Site.

The morning session was led by Dr. Katherine Smith, Director of Culture and Dr. Allison Flax-Archer, Secretary General for the BVI National Commission for UNESCO. In the afternoon, the workshop was facilitated by Mr. Linton Toney, an Adjunct Lecturer at H.L. Stoutt Community College.

This educational initiative provided students with hands-on experience and insights into the preservation and reconstruction of the Virgin Islands’ built heritage, emphasising the importance of archaeological practices in maintaining the historical and cultural fabric of the community.
