The Honourable Sharie B. de Castro, Minister for Education, has unveiled the Let’s Teach VI initiative, aimed at providing support and training for new, unskilled, and inexperienced individuals seeking careers in education.

Minister de Castro explained that the initiative offers two pathways for aspiring teachers: the Teacher Trainee and the Teacher Recruit programs.

“The Let’s Teach VI initiative is a crucial step in building a local pool of educators as we continue to reimagine education in the Virgin Islands. We are dedicated to attracting talented individuals who are passionate about teaching and making a positive impact on the lives of our students,” stated the Education Minister.

The initiative encompasses two distinct categories: Teacher Trainees and Teacher Recruits.

The Teacher Trainee Program is specifically designed for recent high school graduates, providing them with a direct pathway into the teaching profession. Trainees will receive on-the-job training, mentorship, and academic enrichment, while working alongside experienced teachers in classrooms.

The Teacher Recruit Program aims to attract college graduates from diverse academic majors, occupations, and backgrounds to join the teaching profession. Participants in this program will be required to teach in schools for a minimum of two years.

Both Teacher Trainees and Teacher Recruits will have the opportunity to enroll at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Institute of Education to become qualified teachers.

Dr. Marcia Potter, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, emphasized that interested individuals must complete the application form available at https://shorturl.at/fuyK0 to be considered for the program.

Dr. Potter further explained, “The Ministry of Education will carefully review all applications and inform individuals if they have progressed to the interview stage. After completing the process, applicants will receive an update on the status of their application.”

The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports remains steadfast in its commitment to providing high-quality educational services and promoting access to sports and recreation, enriching the lives of the residents of the Virgin Islands.
