The Office of the Supervisor of Elections is encouraging persons who are eligible to vote to get registered now.

A July 5 government statement said registration is “continuous” and that eligible individuals “must be a Belonger as per section (2) of the Virgin Islands Order Constitution 2007, 18 years of age or older and domiciled in the Virgin Islands to be qualified to register.”

When registering persons are required to “present documents including a Virgin Islands Passport with embossed seal or a Belonger’s Card or a Belonger’s Certificate. A Naturalisation Certificate can also be used, providing the certificate is dated before June 15, 2007,” the statement noted.

Additionally, persons who have relocated from one district to another and wish to be transferred are encouraged to apply for a transfer.

“Documents to support a transfer can be in the form of Cable, Water, Electricity or Telephone bills, a rent receipt, lease agreement or a notarised document stating the new address,’ according to the government statement.

Both registration and transfer forms are available online, or at the Office of the Supervisor of Elections, Road Town Post Office, the District Offices on Anegada and Virgin Gorda and the Government Office on Jost Van Dyke.

A total of 16, 131 persons are registered to vote in this year’s April 24 general election. There were 1,093 new registered voters.
