Family Of Seriously Injured JVD Teen Have Appealed For Financial Assistance For Evacuation And Surgery

The family of Elijah Chinnery, the 14-year-old who was seriously injured in a beach accident on Friday in Jost Van Dyke, are appealing to the public for financial assistance to evacuate him for surgery outside the territory.

The social media appeal said the British Virgin Islands teenager has “broken the vertebrae in his neck into pieces, also causing it to rests on his spine and causing paralysis. There is a 40/60 chance that he may walk again.”

He was celebrating on the Jost Van Dyke beach with the 2023 graduating class when the accident occurred.

The youngster was a guest speaker at the graduation earlier in the day.

The post said the teenager has to have “surgery and medical care at the earliest date. Please help us make this happen for Elijah.”
