Purcell Estate resident Selroy Hanley now faces a murder charge after the victim in the 2022 basketball court stabbing incident died in March from his injuries.

Hanley was originally charged with wounding with intent for stabbing Trevon Elliot, a native of St Kitts, with an ice pick several times about his upper body on the Purcell Estate basketball court on August 30, 2022 on Tortola.

Elliot, who was rushed to the Dr O Smith Hospital in a critical condition, spent more than half a year in treatment for the stab wounds.

Hanley was informed of the amended charge on Tuesday, May 30 by Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards during a virtual court appearance.

He was not required to plead to the indicatable charge which stated that last August the deceased visited to the basketball court to meet a friend where Hanley was fixing a motorcycle.

The dead man’s friend departed shortly after and Elliot then walked to entrance of the court to collect a mango he had forgotten earlier.

Hanley approached him saying “Purcell man is punk,” and stabbed him repeatedly with an ice pick.

The matter was investigated by detectives attached to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and Hanley was arrested and charged.
