PVIM Met WIth PU, VIP And NDP To Discuss Forming Coalition
Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) politicians have met with Progressives United (PU), the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and the National Democratic Party (NDP) to discuss the formation of a coalition government.
A statement released online said ”we have met with all elected persons and groups, namely Progressive United, the National Democratic Party, and the Virgin Islands Party, to decide the next step as we seek to form a Government in the best interest of the aspirations of the people of the Virgin islands. We left our offices and groups at 4:00 a.m. this morning, 25 April working on your behalf.”
PVIM won three seats in the fifth House of Assembly – Mitch Turnbull returned as Second Electoral District Representative and Skelton and Stacey ‘Buddha’ Mather won two of the four Territorial-At-Large seats.
VIP won six seats – Karl Dawson in the First Electoral District, Luce Hodge-Smith in the Fourth Electoral District, Kye Rhymer in the Fifth Electoral District, Chairman Natalio Wheatley in the Seventh Electoral District and Vincent Wheatley in Ninth Electoral District. Sharie De Castro won one of the four Territorial-At-Large.
NDP won three seats – Myron Walwyn in the Sixth Electoral District and Marlon Penn in the Eight Electoral District. Lorna Smith won one the four Territorial-At Large seats.
PU Chairman Julian Fraser was re-elected as the Third Electoral District Representative.
The PVIM statement added: “The voice of the people has reverberated throughout each district, indicating a resounding need for a coalition government in taking this Territory forward through the turbulent time it finds itself, in this era of change where stability is needed for a better Virgin Islands.
PVIM said they are putting the country first and reassured the territory that “we will not compromise our principles and values of integrity, transparency, and accountability, amongst others, because we know that these things matter to you most, as they do to us.”
PVIM will continue to meet with political parties throughout the day.
Advance Polling was on April 20, while election day was April 24.
