HM Customs official arrested

A senior male official from Her Majesty’s Customs was on Tuesday, Feb. 14 arrested on suspicion of breach of trust and released, according to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and reliable sources.
“The RVIPF executed warrants in relation to an ongoing investigation into irregularities with HM Customs. A 56-year-old male was today arrested on suspicion of Breach of Trust by a public official and subsequently released pending further information,” the RVIPF said.
No further information was disclosed.
In response to a question at a press conference Tuesday, Governor John Rankin had disclosed that police officers from the United Kingdom are in the territory conducting criminal investigations arising from the Commission of Inquiry report as well as other general criminal matters.
A number of civil servants have been arrested in connection with investigations surrounding the breach of trust in public office.
