Four athletes from the British Virgin Islands opened competition Thursday in the Pan American Senior Squash Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where players from across the Americas are competing in individual, team and doubles events.

The British Virgin Islands has several players in the individual competition, who began their matches this morning.

The schedule for today’s individual competition is as follows:

• 11 a.m.: Danny Henderson (BVI) vs. Seth Thong (Trinidad and Tobago)

• 11:40 a.m.: Joe Chapman (BVI) vs. Matias Lacroix (Chile)

• 12:20 p.m.: Oli Henderson (BVI) vs. Roberto Pezzota (Argentina)

• 1:40 p.m.: Luca Reich (BVI) vs. Noah Browne (Bermuda)

Officials noted that the championships have grown significantly in competitiveness over the past two decades, with numerous top-ranked players from the region, including Diego Elias, Miguel Rodriguez, and Leonel Cardenas, currently within the world’s top 80 rankings.
