The camp will run daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to participants across the territory. Organizers said the initiative is designed to provide structured training and skill development opportunities for young athletes during the Easter holiday period.

The program will focus on fundamental basketball skills, including ball handling, shooting, and teamwork, while also promoting discipline and physical fitness among participants.

The tournament, which ran from Thursday, August 29 to Sunday, September 1, saw fierce competition among teams from across the region.

The SVA Stars began their campaign with a hard-fought victory over Process from St. Thomas, winning 20-16. They stumbled in their second game, falling to host team Positive Guidance with a score of 27-21.

However, the Stars rebounded in a double-overtime showdown against Alliance from St. Croix, edging out their rivals 46-41 to secure a spot in the championship game.

In the final, the SVA Stars faced Positive Guidance once more but ultimately fell short, losing 36-23. Despite the loss, their performance earned them a well-deserved second place finish and a silver medal.

From August 16-18, teams from across the Caribbean, including the British Virgin Islands, USVI—St. Thomas and St. Croix, Antigua and St. Eustatius, competed for the championship.

When all was said and done, it was the teams from the USVI and the BVI that took home the top honours in their respective divisions.

In the 12-15 category, The Process from St. Thomas, pulled off a nail-biting 51-49 victory over St. Croix’s Alliance. This matchup had everything you could ask for in a championship game—intense defense, lead changes, and a dramatic finish that left fans on the edge of their seats. 

In the 9-12 Division, it was the SVA All Star Juniors from the British Virgin Islands who claimed the title. They overpowered Antigua & Barbuda’s Wadadli Jr. Elite with a dominant 40-21 victory.

Running from July 14 to July 20, 2024, the BOTF promises a week of fierce competition, and the Blazers set the tone with their opening performance.

Coach Brian S. Brewley, aka ‘Bash,’ masterminded a strategic onslaught from the Blazers by letting point guard Anthony J. Smith command the court leaving the Dominican Republic scrambling.

From the first whistle, the Blazers surged ahead, establishing a double-digit lead that they never relinquished. Norville S. Carey, known as ‘Banana,’ was a force to be reckoned with, racking up 17 points. Hot on his heels, Raheem E. Carter contributed 16 points, while Shamarr A. George, aka ‘Shumba,’ added 15 points to the tally.

The VG Bayside Blazers, under the ownership and management of Julian Willock, have drawn significant backing, with Biras Creek Resort leading as the Platinum Sponsor. Other key supporters include the Skelton Group of Companies, Hon. Lorna G. Smith, OBE, Hon. Vincent O. Wheatley, Nagico Insurances, Clive L. McCoy, Ephraim E. Penn, Cliff W. Williams, and Northam Construction.

Tonight’s showdown at 8:00 PM against Team USA is set to be a highlight of the tournament, followed by a crucial clash with St. Maarten on Tuesday, July 16.

In another gripping game, the Skillful Ballers from Tortola, coached by Rodney Simmons (‘Gola’), secured a nail-biting victory over St. Eustatius with an 81-76 finish, adding to the Virgin Islands’ triumphs.

With big names like former Los Angeles Lakers’ player D’Moi M. Hodge gracing the court for Tola, expectations were high. However, the USVI team, led by Khalid S. Gerard, had other plans.

Despite facing challenges such as a short bench, the USVI team secured a commanding 88-67 win over Team Tola.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Team Tola struggled to keep pace with their opponents. Despite the efforts of powerhouse players, they failed to regain momentum. The absence of key player Ray D. Victor due to injury further hindered their performance.

As the clock ticked down, disappointment swept through the Tola supporters. With just minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, some fans began to leave the arena, their hopes of a Tola victory dashed.

The King of the Courts Tournament, organised by Steve E. Parillon, featured six teams from across the Caribbean.

With the BVI Basketball Federation in a state of confusion over election dates, the commencement of the next basketball league still hangs in the balance.

Despite the uncertainties, one thing is clear – the US Virgin Islands have once again proven their prowess in Caribbean basketball, leaving their mark on the court and in the hearts of their fans.
