The case stemmed from an incident on November 3, 2021, when officers of the Armed Response Team conducted a routine vehicle stop in the Road Town area.

The search of the vehicle, driven by Jamaican native David Cummings and carrying Sommersell as a passenger, led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm pistol and eight rounds of ammunition hidden within.

Both Cummings and Sommersell were charged with carrying an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Her co-defendant Cummings is currently leading his defense as he is still facing charges. He is being represented by Attorney-at-law Valerie Gordon.

The court ultimately ruled in her favour, citing insufficient evidence to convict her of the charges.
