High-Speed Chase in Hawk’s Nest Leads to Firearm Recovery, Injured Man Found
A high-stakes police pursuit in the Hawk’s Nest area culminated in the recovery of a dangerous weapon and the discovery of a severely injured man, following a dramatic chase late Sunday night.
The incident began on Sunday, August 25, when officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) attempted to intercept two vehicles suspected of engaging in lookout activities—a potential precursor to criminal activity. As the officers approached, both vehicles sped away, triggering a high-speed chase through the narrow roads of Hawk’s Nest.
During the pursuit, one of the fleeing vehicles careened over an embankment, plunging into the darkness below. By the time police arrived at the crash site, the occupants of both vehicles had already fled, vanishing into the night.
At dawn on Monday, August 26, RVIPF officers returned to the scene and made a significant discovery: an AK-47 assault rifle. The powerful weapon, often associated with violent crime, was hidden near the crash site. In addition to the firearm, police found a male individual suffering from serious injuries. The injured man was immediately transported to Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The RVIPF has launched an intensive investigation into the incident, working around the clock to piece together the events that led to the chase and the subsequent discovery of the weapon. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared confidentially by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or contacting the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool emphasised the importance of community cooperation, noting that even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving the case and preventing further violence.
